Speaker Profile
MICHAEL LAVERTY
After many years as an executive in corporate America and as an equity partner in a successful venture capital group, I decided to transition my career to collegiate education to share knowledge gained and the benefit of many lessons learned. As I reflect upon my education from the undergraduate to the doctoral level, I truly gained the most knowledge in a practitioner-oriented environment where the sharing of real-life experience by my instructors enabled the course concepts to become understandable and hence transferable for practical application. I retired early as project/operations manager in municipal government, where I learned yet another dimension of business and organizational leadership from the public sector. I am truly excited to share my experiences with each of you to better enable your understanding of an ever-changing, dynamic workplace today. I am a certified Six Sigma Black Belt in both traditional methodology and Lean. My educational background includes attainment of a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, an MBA from the Keller Graduate School of Management/Project Management and a Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University. In addition, I am a certified Six Sigma Black belt with training through Villanova University and Master Project Manager certification. As a 21 year resident of the Tampa Bay area of Florida. I have three wonderful children, Caitlyn, 24, Erin, 19 and a son Connor, 17. My son has autism; I spend much of our free time advocating for individuals and families affected by this disability. In addition, I am actively involved in autism, prison and nursing home ministries with my church. I am also a fitness enthusiast. After leading over 100 Six Sigma projects and serving as an Associate Professor with the Jack Welch Management Institute in Operations Management, I am confident that my experiences and knowledge can provide value to you in Six Sigma and Project Management! I look forward to collaborating with you.
