Introduction to bar charts and logic networks that are used in project planning and scheduling: concepts, definitions, and examples. The seminar covers the history of bar charts and scheduling methods, types of bar charts, and advantages and limitations of bar charts. We also cover logic networks with a brief mention of arrow networks, and then a focus on node networks with several examples. We go through steps to draw logic networks accurately. We mention precedence networks, an advanced type of node network. We make recommendations for the proper drawing of the networks. We conclude with a comparison between arrow networks and node networks and another comparison between logic networks and bar charts.
Areas Covered
- Introduction to and history of bar charts
- Types of bar charts
- Advantages and limitations of bar charts.
- Introduction to and types of logic networks
- Concepts and definitions in logic networks.

Who Should Attend
This seminar is important for the entire project management team, particularly junior planners and schedulers, project managers, project controls managers, cost estimators, and other project management team members. It is also good for anyone interested in learning about project scheduling.
Why Should You Attend
This seminar is important for those who are starting a career in planning and scheduling or for those in the construction management team who need to understand the fundamentals of project planning and scheduling using bar charts and logic networks. It covers the subject starting with a brief history, concepts and definitions, examples, recommendations, and a conclusion.
Topic Background
This is an introductory seminar about bar charts and logic networks that are used in project planning and scheduling, using the Critical Path Method, CPM. It covers the history, types, advantages, and limitations of bar charts. Next, we cover logic networks with a brief mention of arrow networks, and then we focus on node networks with several examples. We then compare arrow networks to node networks and logic networks (of both types) to bar charts.
