Developing an ethical approach to data collection, storage, usage, and security is essential to an organization’s successful use of its information assets. This webinar provides attendees with an overview of the foundations of data ethics and the ethical treatment of data, including an approach for creating an ethical data culture, the benefits of managing data according to ethical principles, and insights into some challenges with using data ethically.

Why Should You Attend

Data ethics is a branch of ethics that evaluates data practices—collecting, generating, analyzing, and disseminating data, both structured and unstructured since mishandled data can affect people and society in many negative ways.

The topic of data ethics includes concepts of right and wrong conduct and ways to identify “good data behavior” versus “bad data behavior”.  Data ethics allows organizations to use data with transparency in and defensibility of actions and decisions and provides guidelines for employees and the public to learn about how to collect, store, and use data in a trustworthy manner.  The explosion in analytics and automated/artificial intelligence (AI) makes the need to adopt an ethical approach to data management even more important.

While data ethics is related to legislation around personal information (such as GDPR and CCPA), it is not limited to achieving regulatory compliance. Being ethical about data use goes beyond meeting legislation – it covers employee/company conduct around how data is collected, shared, and used.
