Although conflict may never be comfortable, understanding its causes and learning strategies to address it can relieve much of the stress that it triggers. In this webinar, participants will better understand the nature of conflict, potential sources, and strategies to resolve and prevent it.

This session covers how to address conflict in the workplace. The program will provide understanding of conflict as well as methods and processes to facilitate de-escalation of the conflict and emotions to achieve a resolution. Using the principles of The Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI), participants’ behavior and preferred styles in conflict situations will be assessed, based on the five styles of conflict:

  • Competing (assertive, uncooperative),
  • Avoiding (unassertive, uncooperative),
  • Accommodating (unassertive, cooperative),
  • Collaborating (assertive, cooperative), and
  • Compromising (intermediate assertiveness and cooperativeness).
  • By identifying alternative conflict styles, it helps people reframe and defuse conflict, creating more productive results in addressing conflicts and disputes in the workplace.

Why Should You Attend

Conflict is apparent in the workplace, especially during tough business times where resources are light and tempers are shorter. Most people lack basic conflict management skills and react to conflict on a purely emotional level. In reacting to conflict, many managers will attempt to ignore the problem in the hopes that they will just disappear. However, this method will create more stress and tension in the workplace and cause additional conflict among the parties and even involve others in the conflict.

Topic Background

Managing and positively engaging with conflict can help you and the people around you be more effective and productive. Learn different ways to address conflict, and to identify potential conflicts before they fully arise so you can better deal with a range of confrontational situations in the workplace and outside.
